Some places change people. This is one of them.
Retreat design and facilitation in the wild landscapes of Tanzania, for the companies, coaches, and hospitality partners whose groups are ready for a personal development journey.
Not a getaway. A turning point.
Spiral Boma designs retreats for people and groups at a turning point: leadership teams facing real change, a coach’s clients ready to go deeper, guests seeking something a seminar room could never hold.
We take your group into the field. Into sacred landscapes held by living Maasai tradition. Into the kind of stillness and wildness that stops the mind and opens something deeper.
Every retreat is a container built around your group, your questions, your timing. We design it and hold it. The land, the guides, and the ceremonies do the rest.
-
Northern Tanzania. Maasai sacred sites. Ancient volcanic mountains, open plains, and skies you cannot ignore. The land is not a backdrop:
it is part of the medicine.
-
Spiral Boma has spent years building genuine relationships with Maasai Wisdomkeepers at Mukuru Sacred Site. The ceremonies, practices, and wisdom offered here come from that ongoing relationship, not from a brochure.
-
Cindy Lobo and Marco de Graaff have been guiding transformational journeys in Tanzania for years. They know the land, the culture, and the inner terrain of the people who come.
Three flagship experiences, built to be brought to your people.

A retreat is a container, not just an event.
What makes a retreat transformative is not only what happens during the days in the field. It is the quality of the space that holds a group before, during, and after. We build in preparation so the people who arrive come grounded and open. We hold the group through the experience itself. And we build in integration support for when they return home, because what begins on a mountainside in Tanzania deserves to last longer than the flight back. Before any program is confirmed, we have a real conversation with the partner bringing the group, a chance to make sure the fit is right for where their people are right now.
The people who hold the space
Cindy Lobo
Cindy is a certified mBIT Master Coach and Trainer, cultural anthropologist, author of The Medicine: Personal Tales of Awakening and Inner Transformation, and one of the founders of Spiral Boma. She has spent years living in Northern Tanzania, building deep relationships with Maasai communities and the sacred landscapes where these retreats take place. She guides with warmth, direct honesty, and a presence that allows people to feel safe enough to be real.
Marco de Graaff
Marco has guided wilderness expeditions and transformational journeys for over twenty years. He has worked in Maasai-land for more than twelve years and brings a depth of cultural knowledge and outdoor expertise that makes these retreats possible in the way they are. He holds space with steadiness, humour, and the kind of calm that comes from having seen a great deal.
The places we work with
Our Home
Tanzania
Northern Tanzania has been Spiral Boma's home ground for over a decade. Sacred Maasai landscapes, ancient volcanic mountains, and one of the last places on earth where indigenous wisdom traditions are still fully alive. Home to all three 2027 retreats.

Suriname | The next destination we’re developing
One of the most biodiverse and least-visited countries on earth, and where personal roots lie. Ancient rainforest, Maroon and indigenous communities, and rivers that have never been mapped. We’re building the same partnership model here, for companies, coaches, and hospitality partners ready to bring their people somewhere few have been.

Our retreats grow from genuine relationships with land, culture, and community. If you have a place or a vision you would like to explore with us, we would love to hear from you.
Travel that gives back.
Spiral Boma has been part of the communities around Mukuru Sacred Site for years, not as visitors passing through, but as partners with real relationships and long-term commitment. A portion of every retreat fee supports Maasai community projects in education, clean water, health, and local employment. When you travel with Spiral Boma, you are part of something larger than your own journey.
Something in you already knows.
If you have scrolled this far, the pull is probably real. The next step is a conversation, not a sales call, to see whether this is the right fit for the people you want to bring, and when the timing is right. No pressure. No commitment. Just a beginning.
